Christmas Tree at Newell Library

Each year, the preschoolers decorate a Christmas tree for the Newell Public Library's Christmas Tree display.  This year, the theme is "Winter Wonderland".  The children made snowflake ornaments out of old puzzle pieces.  Both classes went to the library to hang their ornaments on the tree.  While we were there, we looked at the other trees and Angie read some stories to us.  Stop in and see our tree if you get a chance.

Halloween Parties

The preschoolers had a great time at the Halloween Parties.  Since we had our parties a day early, we paraded through some classrooms to show off our costumes.  Everyone wanted us to visit their classroom because we had such cute spooks. :)  We ate yummy snacks and played some fun games.  Thank you party committees!

Fun With Pumpkins

While learning about the color orange, we did many activities with pumpkins.  We cleaned and carved them, hammered golf tees in one, and melted orange crayons on some small ones.  We also painted orange pumpkins at the easel and read some pumpkin stories.

Red Ribbon Week

Last week was Red Ribbon Week.  This week is celebrated nationwide to teach children about the importance of staying away from alcohol, tobacco and drugs.  Students from the high school came and presented a power point about making healthy choices in our lives.  They had the children run with straws in their mouths to show them how hard it is to breathe when you smoke.  They also showed the children what the mouth of a smoker would look like.

Nature's Colors

Katie the BV County Naturalist paid her first visit of the year to our classroom and talked to us about the colors of nature.  The preschoolers favorite color of nature was the painted turtle Katie brought with her.  She will be coming to our classroom throughout the year to discuss science and nature.

Fire Safety Day

Fire Safety Day was a lot of fun!  Thank you to the firefighters for taking the time to talk to us about fire safety and for giving us a ride around town.

Fall Story Hour

The librarians at the Newell Public Library invited the elementary classes to their Fall Story hour.  We listened to stories about friendship then we traced our hands and made a friendship chain.  If you get a chance go to the library and check out the chain!!!

Homecoming

Even the preschoolers have school spirit when it comes to Homecoming.  Some of the children dressed up for "Twin (triplet) Day", "Crazy Hair/Hat Day", and "Favorite Holiday Day".  Almost everyone was in blue and silver on Friday.  The p.m. class watched the Homecoming Parade and cheered "GO MUSTANGS!!"

F is for Flute and Football Readers

While learning about the letter F, we read a story called "Fifi Ferret's Flute".  As a follow up activity, Megan came and played her flute for us.  She would play a song and the children would try to guess the song.  In this picture, they are clapping and singing along to "Bingo".  Thank you, Megan, for playing this game with us.

Every Friday during football season, we have a football player come and read a story to us.  The preschoolers really enjoy getting to see the boys in their football jerseys and hearing them read.  It is especially fun when the football reader is your brother!  We thank the Mustang football players and Coach Wilken for sharing their time with us.

Construction Outside

Exciting things are going on outside of our classroom.  The a.m. class got to see the old shop come down while we were outside playing.  Looking out the window has become one of the most popular centers during center time.  The children are finding the demolition and cleanup very interesting.  It will be fun to be able to watch the construction happen right outside our windows.

We had some fun visitors to our classroom the first week of school.  The afternoon kids have gotten to see a very big frog and a little tiny one.  A rabbit with her baby also came to visit us.

Nutrition Day

Monday, April 23rd was "Nutrition Day" at the Newell-Fonda Elementary.  Staff members from Buena Vista Regional Medical Center taught the preschoolers about fruits and vegetables.  Following the lesson, we went to the gym to exercise.  The children bowled using water bottles and participated in an obstacle course.  The kids loved the obstacle coarse.  They went through it over and over.  We learned exercise can be fun.  Each child received a bag from BVRMC with ideas of fun movement activities to do this summer.
