April Fool's Day

The preschoolers loved April Fool's Day. They wanted it to continue for every day in April, but I can only chase spiders off my head all day for one day of the year. :) One of our preschoolers in the p.m. class fooled us at snack time. He told us he brought ice cream cones, but really they were cupcakes baked in ice cream cones. This was a very tasty April Fool's joke.

Family Fun Night

Making necklaces
Decorating (and eating) cookies
Working with the iPod Touches
Playing with play dough

On March 3rd, we held a Preschool Family Fun Night. The night began with the preschoolers singing a couple songs for their parents. Following the songs, different activities were set up for the parents or grandparents and children to participate in together. I was pleased so many of you could attend. A big thank you goes to the Preschool Advisory Committee for providing materials and helping plan the evening.

Dental Health

February was Dental Health month. Mrs. Tiefenthaler came to preschool to teach the preschoolers why it is important to brush their teeth. She also talked about foods that make your teeth healthy and which foods you need to brush off after you eat them. I encourage you to reinforce good tooth brushing habits at home.

Preschool Family Fun Night

We will be having a Preschool Family Fun Night on Thursday, March 3rd from 6:30 - 7:30. This will be for current preschoolers and their parents. It will be held in the Commons area (new addition) at the school. The preschoolers will be singing a couple of songs, and then we will have activities for you to do with your child. Child care will be provided for siblings, so this can be a special night for just you and your preschooler. This will also be a good opportunity for you to meet some of the other parents. I hope all of you can make it.

Valentine's Day Parties

We all had a good time at the Valentine's Day parties. The children had fun decorating their cereal boxes to use as Valentine holders, and they were very excited to bring Valentines for their friends. Thank you to the parents who provided and helped with the parties.

Little Miss Muffet

Preschoolers love to act out stories and nursery rhymes. We worked on cutting skills by making "spider hats" then used them to act out the nursery rhyme Little Miss Muffet. The children had a lot of fun doing this. We had some pretty frightening spiders.

Field Trip to the Post Office

Rick gave us a tour of the post office

Mailing Valentines to our parents.
Postmarking the stamp
Sorting the mail

We have been learning about mail in preschool. The children have been making letters for their friends in the writing center and mailing them in the post office set up in the dramatic play center. We have been busy making Valentines for our parents. On Thursday, we went to the Newell Post Office and got the chance to be postal workers. The children mailed their Valentines, postmarked the stamp and sorted the letters so they would be mailed to their parents. Rick showed us how he weighs packages and the big carts the mail comes in. We thank Rick for taking time to show us around and for letting the children have this hands on experience.

B.V. Naturalist Visits Preschool

Katie, the B.V. County Naturalist, visited our classroom. She presented a program for the preschoolers on small mammals. She brought a wide variety of pelts for the children to see and told us about each animal. Following her presentation, the children had the opportunity to touch the fur of the animals. It was fun to see how all the different animals feel.

Learning Sign Language

The preschoolers are learning some sign language. We learned how to sign 11 colors. Once a week, Doreen from AEA comes to the p.m. class and teaches the class some other signs. It will be fun to see how many signs we know by the end of the year.
